Rotary Club of Mzuzu
Investing in teenage girls for a more just and stable world!
The goal is to manufacture reusable sanitary pads locally. This process empowers the women to run a business and sell the pads locally. However, most schoolgirls cannot afford menstrual products of any kind. This grant will empower a Malawian school girl to stay healthy so that she can attend school full time, pursue her dreams and become a role model for young girls in her village.
Rotary Club of Mzuzu, Rotary Club of Fort Collins and Rotary Foundation have teamed up to empower girls and women at eight different schools in rural, northern Malawi. Phase one of the Rotary International global grant is complete and we have successfully constructed our first two girls’ private restrooms at Choma Primary and Secondary Schools. The women of Viweme Village are being trained on pad kit production. Construction of an herbal garden for pain management has begun as well. Pad kit distribution and Women’s health education classes will be the final phase of the grant.
